reichstag
Photograph by Jewgeni Chaldej (Yevgeny Khaldei)
A picture of the rising of the hammer and sickle flag over the Reichstag. It should be noted that the flag in this picture was made from red tablecloth with the hammer and sickle themselves stamped on. Also, this photo was most likely taken two to three days after the battle, not immediately after, as it might suggest. The smoke that can be seen in the background stems from manipulation done to the photo after it was taken. There were also other manipulation; the Sergeant who is seen helping to raise the flag originally had several "liberated" watches on his arm, but all but one of them were removed. Even so, the symbolism cannot be refuted.
This picture/multimedia file is now available on Wikimedia Commons as Image:Red army soldiers raising the soviet flag on the roof of the reichstag berlin germany.jpg.
